LibriVox recording of Call of the Wild, by Jack London.
In this novel (often mistakenly classified a children’s book) the main protagonist Buck, a St. Bernard/Collie mix, is abducted and sold to a trainer of sled dogs in Alaska. He adapts to the brutal conditions and is finally acquired by a loving man. When this new owner is killed, Buck follows the ‘call of the wild’ and joins a pack of wolves. (Summary written by Gesine)

The last reader is the famous miette, among my personal audiolit favourites.
The previous reader, Jean, does an excellent and crisp reading... so i'd suggest other listeners have a listen for themselves and make up their own minds.
UPDATE : 1 Jun 2015 This being a very early LibriVox recording, the volume of track 5 (Ch. 5 & 6) was very uneven. This has now been corrected.

Another solo version available
There is another solo Librivox recording of Call of the Wild, read by Mark Smith. If you prefer a single reader, I highly recommend Mark.(a/k/a Kaffen) Everything he reads is outstanding.

Love the book, love librivox, hate splitting up books
I know it has to be difficult, but consistancy means a lot when reading a book. I was taken aback when I first listened to the book and suddenly found that the reader had changed. There's a lot to be said for having a single reader unless you use different people for the various characters.
I tried to listen to Tom Crawford's version, but did not find that to my tastes either. I'm a sad case, I know, since I'm sure all concerned are better readers than me.
For what it's worth, I'm trying to join LibriVox as a reader, but will shy away from the reader per chapter process. Just my personal preference.

Great, but sad too!
Great story, all the readers were good in my opinion!

A good audio book spoiled by the last reader: Jean O'Sullivan who's peculiar voice is a melange of Inspector Clouseau, Pauline "Pens" from League of Gentlemen and Mrs Bouquet in Keeping Up Appearances. I know this is done for free but has no-one told her that she's impossible to listen to? I had to stop and shall re-read the last chapter in paper form.
