Pure speed run of Half-Life on hard mode, completed on April 5 2004. Available as DivX avi, 640x480 or 320x240 and original recordings as .dem files, which require version 1.1.2.0 of Half-Life to play. Half-Life times are done from the start of the "anomalous materials" episode, to the fade to green after beating nihilanth. A penalty of 0.5 seconds is added for each demo recorded beyond the first, because the engine seems to skip around 0.2 seconds for each new demo, and to discourage...

Super Mario 64, played as quickly as possible on Mupen64 (a Nintendo 64 emulator). A mere 16 stars are collected and many game bugs are abused in order to complete the game without the normal 70 star requirement. Playing time: 15 minutes, 40 seconds. Website: http://tasvideos.org/718M.html This is a tool-assisted movie. For details, see http://tasvideos.org/

Single-segment speed run of Resident Evil 3 on Hard mode achieving A-rank, done on September 2 2007. Available in five versions: low/normal quality DivX, and normal/high/low quality H.264 MPEG-4. Author's comments: -First, I'd like to dedicate this run to my cat, Spot, who passed away a couple of days before I recorded this run from Feline Leukemia Virus (quite the oxymoron, isn't it?). He sat on top of my chair on numerous occasions to watch me get frustrated at the game's randomization...

Single-segment speed run of Metroid II: Return of Samus with 100% item collection. The displayed end time is ignored due to a flaw in the game's saving system which rounds the time down to whole minutes. Even on runs which don't save, the listed time is from the start of spawning until the end. Author's comments: I've been playing Metroid II ever since I borrowed it from a friend in '92, and really haven't stopped playing it since. Had to buy a used pak a few times just because I'd lose it in...

Speed run of Metroid II: Return of Samus done in 3 segments, completed on January 18 2005. The displayed end time is ignored due to a flaw in the game's saving system which rounds the time down to whole minutes. The listed time is from the start of spawning until saving/the end. Author's comments: I actually had no intention of attempting an any% run at first, but tried anyway. My first few attempts were single-segment runs, since saving adds an extra 5 seconds to the final time due to the...

Game: Panzer Dragoon Orta; Console: Xbox; (C) Smilebit Corporation / Sega Corporation, 2003 For Episode 5 Boss (Els Enora) you will notice at the beginning, it's energy is depleted somewhat before any hits are administered. Speed run of Metroid Prime on hard mode in 15 segments, completed on October 22 2004. Available in three versions: low quality, normal quality, and 60 fps high quality. Author's comments: I didn't really care about world record at first but when i did my first hard mode run got 1:52 and post over at SCU at the amamteur speed runinng leader board, MonsterERB said that i was too fast to make the amamteur status and told me to do another run and record it. So i did record and got 1:43, 2mins...

Note : This speedthroughs were played on an emulator, using game slow-down options and many quicksaves. This time attack is not a contiguous performance, and is for entertainment purposes only. Author's comments: Hi~ everyone! First this run obvoiusly was done on the emulator with my one year(on and off). This run was done by the famous 'Zsnes' emu.. Single-segment 'perfect run' of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes on extreme mode, done on April 3 2004. Author's comments: This video is an improvement in almost every way on the 1:10 run that I had previously recorded. Again, I run through the rooms with virtual flawlesslessness, and the boss battles are much better as well. Pay heed to the Ninja battle, the Mantis battle, and Wolf 2, as those battles are improved to the pinnacle of my ability and are the standard by which I weigh all other...

22% speed run of Metroid Prime on Hard mode done in 17 segments, completed on August 28 2004. Author's comments: I always planned on doing a 22% game if it never went lower than that, but I didn't get around to it until just recently. I wasn't interested in getting an optimal time, but thought I'd record anyway for proof, and just in case I managed to do something neat, I'd at least have a video that might be useful to someone. I think an optimal run without new finds could get 1:3x (probably...

Speed run of Resident Evil 4 on normal mode using special weapons in 9 segments, completed on February 25 2005. Author's comments: I'll just go straight into the run itself and mention some points of interest: 1-1: I get hit by the axe guy right before the bridge. Sometimes he attacks late and you can run by him without stopping to kill him or getting hit, but it seems random. Taking a hit isn't much slower than killing him, so I just hoped he would attack late and save me time. 1-1: The...

100% speed run of Metroid Prime done in 19 segments, completed on August 12 2004. Author's comments: This is something I did earlier in the month (August) for fun. I spent no time practicing anything or planning out the route/power bomb refill collection. The route was already made, it's the one Radix used in his 1:37 with some new changes he thought of (such as collecting the artifact of wild later on, and getting the Main Quarry missile expansion on the first visit once he discovered that can...

Speed run of Metroid Prime in 15 segments completed on June 24 2004. This is a redo of the last 4 parts of the 1:05 completed 9 days before. The first 11 parts are therefore identical to the first 11 parts from that run. Author's comments: After I finished, I had been meaning to mess around with the second form of the last boss and see if I could find a way to beat him in 3 pools. I thought it was strange how you only had to use half of the fourth pool to finish him off, but this is the only...

Pure speed run of Metroid Prime, completed on June 13 2004. The last four parts were redone to achieve a 1:04, finished on June 24. Author's comments: Some time around December of last year, I started a new any% run to get an idea of what kind of times are possible nowadays, and see what I could accomplish with it. Radix's 1:37 100% had started to become outdated by now, and my previous run was ancient. Some things found during that run continue to be used, but it was just too old to serve as...

Low% speed run on Hard mode of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes in 30 segments, collecting only the minimum 22% items, completed on December 4 2004. Author's comments: Yes, this is another "who cares" run, a lot like my other hard 22% run in the original Metroid Prime. I put minimal effort into optimizing it and used many more saves than I normally would (some that were very out of the way). I didn't do this out of laziness. I just feel that since the game has just been released, and things...

Speed run of SSBM's Adventure mode with Jigglypuff on very easy done on April 28 2005. Time listed is a sum of the elapsed time on each stage. Available in normal and low quality. Author's comments: First I'd like to thank Gigafrost and pkmvodka for tips on some of the levels, as well as Wak who started the idea of a speed run in Adventure. I always liked to play competitively in the SSBM 1P Modes. But I wasn't sure if I would be able to finish this run because the randomness of the exit room...

Single-segment speed run of the Sega Saturn version of Castlevania: Nocturne in the Moonlight (Symphony of the Night in English) as Richter, completed on 16 July 2006. Author's comments: Hello again! Thanks to DJGrenola for synching the audio! This run, just like with the Maria run I did earlier, came out of my simply wanting to show the character initially from a request. The purpose of a NBMB run in Super Metroid is to get as many items as possible after getting bombs, without ever fighting another boss or mini-boss. Although a lot items are easy to get, many require difficult tricks using glitches to achieve, such as items in Maridia and lower Norfair. Available in both mpeg4 and DivX versions. Author's comments: Hey. This is my No Boss/Mini Boss 72% run. 73% is the max, but the last item is dumb. Enjoy.

Pure speed run of Metroid done on January 21 2004. Recorded the same day as the 37:17, but this demo was recorded without collecting the varia suit in an attempt to be faster. Author's comments: I went the same route as the ~37 video, except I did not go into the green area of Brinstar (with the Varia suit). This makes the game much tougher, and regaining energy becomes a more recurring annoyance. This run should have been faster than the Varia Suit one, but the fish coming out of pipes in...

100% speed run of Metroid Zero Mission on hard mode in 15 segments, completed on March 11 2004. Was the world record until May 1 2004. Author's comments: Hey here's my 1:04:44, it is a little bit different from the 1:11:10, mainly in the approach to the route; the route taken is not very different between each run. Quite a number of changes were the result of suggestions from other players at the ZM gf board. This is pretty much as close as I can get to under an hour 100% on hard right now, so...

Speed run of Dragon Quest 3 with a solo Hero in ~9:00. Author's comments:      Hello. This is a solo Hero playthrough of Dragon Quest 3 for the Super Famicom. It's not a "as fast as I can"-type run, more of a "completionist" one in which I tried to get all items found on the ground and in chests, and I went through all of the dungeons in the game as well. The playtime of the video up until the game is beaten appears to be about 9:08:29, with the reset/startup time...

Speed run of Metroid with 100% item collection done on April 10 2004. Available in three versions: low quality, normal quality, and 60 fps high quality. Author's comments: I go a slightly alternate route in this version, and I'm not really sure if my path through Hideout 1/Kraid's is worth doing or not. I did my :29 after this run, so I know I can get a better 100% time if I tried one now, maybe a :54 if I get lucky. Several things I do in the :29 I could utilize in a 100%, and they would help....

Speed run of Final Fantasy 1 (PS1) in ~4:55. Author's comments:      Hello. This is my ~4:55 video playthrough of Final Fantasy 1 on the PS1. The version played is the Japanese version, mainly because it is the one I am used to (control-wise) and that this version does not have that "dancing cursor" problem (where the cursor seems to move on its own while the player is choosing an option, resulting in going to an undesired command) that the US version has in the game. 100% speed run of Metroid Zero Mission on hard mode in 10 segments, completed on February 22 2004. Was the world record until March 11 2004. Author's comments: This run is, that I'm aware of, the current fastest 100% hard for Zero Mission. But of course, since the game is still relatively new, it is far from optimized, and not flawless, either. I know of a couple things that I would do differently my next time through, and am still not very sure if the route I take is the best or not. Still,...

100% speed run of Metroid, done on March 18 2004. The first recorded 100% game of Metroid, was the record until April 10 2004. Metroid does not give a percent completion at the end like other Metroid games, so we simply define 100% as getting all items and beating both bosses.

Technical demonstation video of completing the game with only 2 items. Author's comments: Ok hi. This is not a real video and stuff, just something I wanted to try out. After talking to someone about low% in Metroid 1 (likely with Radix), I looked around to see what the usual low% was, and most people usually said around 6 pickups (Morph Ball, Bombs, Ice/No Ice, and a couple Missiles usually) which I didn't think was all that low. Pure speed run of Metroid with both bosses beaten, done on January 21 2004. Was the record until April 6 2004. Author's comments: I thought there were lots of Metroid 1 movies around (or at least some Nesticle ones from years ago), but apparently there are hardly any at all made. Note that part '5a' is an alternative to part 5, without using the 'murder beam' glitch on mother brain which achieves an end time of 1:01. Author's comments: First off, this run was done on a console, not an emulator. It is the NTSC cartridge. No chance of using save states or slowdown. All pure luck, and a dash of skill, I guess. I had only had one and a half sequence breaking runs before this one. You can really see that I am lacking experience at the beginning of this game. Single-segment any% run of Super Metroid, done on April 23 2004. Available in both mpeg4 and DivX versions. Author's comments: Firstly, as you can see this is a no-save run; just a straight run in one sitting. Secondly, this pure speed run route and most of the tricks were based with the same as Ultima's. A movie that cannot be submitted to Bisqwit's site due to being made with a hacked version of the game. This run finishes Final Fantasy III in its entirety, using Onion Kid as main job. It's suggested that you skip the first hour, since it consists of mainly levelling up and using a glitch that allows the transformation of items into better items (this is used to get the ultimate weapons, which only Onion Kids can wield, at the beginning of the game). It also contains the full ending. This...

http://tasvideos.org/957S.html This is a tool-assisted speedrun, made on an emulator, using frame-by-frame shooting, savestates, and rerecords to overcome reaction time and human error. As such, it is purely a form of entertainment, and is not designed to show skill.

Bioshock's developer logos (2KG_logo_720P) introduction video (PlaneSequence), main menu video (GathererTeddyBear) and the attract video (attractMovie). The logos play before the game starts up. The intro video is played immediately on pressing "New Game". The main menu movie will play in the background of the main menu (although it has an odd name). Finally, the attract video will play if the main menu is left alone for a long amount of time. It is more akin to a preview or trailer,...

The in-game Plasmid tutorial movies from BioShock. Here are all the available ones from the English PC version of the game, including ones not used in the final game (any not prefixed "Plasmid") which have clearer audio, different music and less stretched and sometimes different animations/video - interesting to contrast to the final versions. All are available in the original BIK format as found in the All HTTP Files list, or the MPEG4 converted versions below.

AVATARA, a documentary about Traveler and its inahbitants (made in 2003) by 536 Productions of Vancouver, BC, Canada. Note that in the introductory audio dialogue, the speaker mentions the date of 1993, more likely this was 1996, the year Onlive Traveler was released to the public. This footage was supplied to the Preserving Virtual Worlds project by Bruce Damer from his collection of videos documenting the history of virtual worlds.

Speed run of Syphon Filter in 20 segments, completed on June 6 2006. Available in five versions: low/normal quality DivX, and normal/high/low quality H.264 MPEG-4. Author's comments: Syphon Filter is one of those odd games that's either brilliant or terrible, and you're never sure which. The controls are sloppy, the manual aim is excruciatingly sluggish, the graphics and story are mediocre, the voice-acting is awful, and yet the gameplay flaws somehow breed their own strategies for getting...

When Devil May Cry was released for the Playstation 2 in 2001, it was a resounding success. The action was stylish, and the combat was extremely fun. Anticipation and excitement was high for a sequel that could be as good as, or even better than, the original. But when Devil May Cry 2 was released in 2003, it was a massive disappointment. Completely missing everything that was so great about the original, the game was a completely mediocre affair, leaving a bad taste in the mouths of gamers. If...

Devil May Cry, developed by Capcom and released on the PlayStation 2 in 2001, is an action title focusing on devils/demons. The protagonist is Dante, a half-human/half-devil character, who has a flair for combat and a love for killing other demons. The game became an instant hit due to its style and involving combat, and spawned its own franchise, including 3 sequels to this day. This LP is done on Dante Must Die! difficulty, using a new Dante. http://tasvideos.org/1574M.html Bubsy is on a hunt to get back his yarn, which the Woolies stole. Bubsy can run very fast, but unfortunately he almost never gets a chance to, because there are obstacles everywhere. Unlike most bobcats, Bubsy can die by touching anything remotely dangerous, like eggs or water. Also unlike regular bobcats, he can glide through the air, has a t-shirt with an exclamation mark, and a smile you'll just be dying to wipe off his face. This new movie by Acmlm is almost...

Single-segment speed run of Silent Hill 2 split across four files, done on January 1 2007. Available in four versions: low/normal/high/insane quality DivX. Author's comments: WHY: Because I've wanted to give some physical proof of my skills. Through all these games which I've done I wasn't able to record a SINGLE run because of the weakness of my PC (only short ones like the "Maria Quest"(which is a SUPPLEMENT to the main part) - you know it also from SDA). Now when the situation has...

PC speed run of Maria's quest in Silent Hill 2 on hard mode, done on December 16, 2006. Available in three versions: low/normal/high quality DivX. Author's Comments: FIRST: the reason why I've come back to this game: Having read some notes about supposedly "equality" of my and Duke's runs (my - 6:29, Duke - 6:32), I've decided to give U the strongest argument which is possible to give in this annoying discussion. HISTORY: I'm just after my run of 6:23 - which is 6 seconds quicker than...

Speed run of Silent Hill 2 in 11 segments, completed on January 28 2007. Available in four versions: low/normal/high/insane quality DivX. Author's comments: WHY: It's my last work connected with "Silent Hill 2", so I especially wanted to give the best result which was possible to get. After getting record times in the other categories in this game, I've created a new one by myself - an UNERROR/ "flawless" run with NO MISTAKES at all. It means off course also the best time...

Speed run of Maria's quest in Silent Hill 2 on hard mode done on October 2, 2006. Available in three versions: low quality, normal quality, and high quality. Author's comments: Yeah, I know it's a new world record. Sounds as good as it looks :));). To break the record wasn't as hard as I had thought at the beginning. A small portion of training and here we go ;):)). You can't believe how many times I've got the same result as the world record - which means 6:32. But at last I've done what I...

Single-segment speed run of Demon's Crest, done on April 8 2007. Available in five versions: low/normal quality DivX, and normal/high/low quality H.264 MPEG-4. Author's comments: Second of four speedruns done on April 8th, 2007. Out of all of the SNES games that I have played, Demon's Crest is definitely one of my favorites, and has one of my favorite soundtracks. The atmosphere and gameplay mechanics are great, and the storyline isn't half bad at all. However, it's very easy to miss the bulk...

Single-segment speed run of Super Mario World, done on December 15 2007. Available in five versions: low/normal quality DivX, and normal/high/low quality H.264 MPEG-4. Author's comments: This is my fifth speedrun of Super Mario World, but it will be the first to be posted at Speed Demos Archive. Let's call this my penultimate effort; my next minimalist SMW run will likely be my last. There was a mistake in Star World 2 that cost about a second. Other than that, the run went near perfectly...

Single-segment speed run of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night done on December 25 2005. Available in four versions: low quality, normal quality, and 60 fps high/insane quality. Speed run of Solstice with 100% map and item collection, done on March 30 2007. Available in five versions: low/normal quality DivX, and normal/high/low quality H.264 MPEG-4. Author's comments: This is my second "100%" speedrun for Solstice. I just got a pair of brand new pair of Composite cables for my NES, as the RF cable I had been using for my entire life had gone bad. When I tried the new cables, I was stunned at how improved the audio and video quality were. I figured I'd...

Single-segment speed run of Demon's Crest with 100% item collection, done on 8 April 2007. Available in five versions: low/normal quality DivX, and normal/high/low quality H.264 MPEG-4. Author's comments: Third of four speedruns done on April 8th, 2007. My copy of this run is just over an hour long, with a sixth of that being the ending sequence. Unlikely as it may seem, this game has had something of an influence on me. My friends and I love Demon's Crest; for years, we had a complex RPG going...
