No Type

No Type has been founded in 1998 to become a quality outlet of pure unadultered freedom for a flurry of artists & musicians too shady for the music industry. No genre of electronic & experimental music is safe from No Type's irreverent grip: from boundary-defying IDM to no wave maximinimalism, we still think you haven't heard it all quite yet.

In early 2002, No Type started its CD releases with an original 2CD compilation entitled The Freest of Radicals. This compilation featured 36 tracks from No Type related artists from all over the globe. Two years later, we are releasing, as a bonus to our esteemed listeners, this remix compilation! Pop songs about changing the cat litter & paying the rent? Cutting edge disco/hip-hop beats set to a formidably sketchy sensibility? Sophisticated songwriting that’s got nothing against honest straight talk? Well, all this & more can be heard on Siblings’ debut EP, which we present today with a suitably wide smile. Siblings is the reunion of David Turgeon (Camp) & the one & only Kaia Wong (Mixel Pixel, The Eastern Stars). So: sincere, intelligent & undefinable pop? Why,...

The human richness of his art, his serious and pragmatical approach to theory, his honest and tactful union of philosophy and music, the fierce life animating his compositions are all essential elements of his inspiring work. Here at No Type, we like ambiences most when they have personality. And personality is something Felix, the man behind Repetition/Distract, certainly doesn’t lack. The first Twombley Spiders album, And The Five Racoon Army , revealed a brighter, more poetic side of Eryk Salvaggio's increasingly endearing musical endeavours. The new Camp EP is the product of a composer turned bitter and mean with time. It's also extremely groovy and sometimes poignant. So we're not too mad at him.

Seven years ago, Asyncdrone (David Turgeon et Kaia Wong, here joined by Napalm Jazz saxophonist Philémon) went in studio to record the follow-up to insurpassable lo-fi slop fest We Who Are Distant. But the contrast couldn’t be bigger: a clean cut production, solid improv, and very different themes from the Asyncdrone we knew. This uncanny result had the effect of them not publishing the recording immediately. Each member went on their own way and, meanwhile, the well-named Demolition Blues...

Four tracks from UK-based downtempo wizard Idmonster, making here his No Type debut. All of them share the property of having a title beginning with the word "The". And also, they're all quite lush & pretty.

This 4-track EP is one of No Type's poppiest but is by no means brainless. From the opening track onwards, it's clear that this duo (whose this is the only album so far) knows how to muster a good hook & cling it to some pristine beats for pure listening enjoyment.

Thin returns for 4 short, catchy tracks with a definite jazzy downtempo feel to them, a comedown of sorts from the Trashcan Land days!

L'île de béton is the duo of David Turgeon (Camp, Period Three) & A_dontigny (Napalm Jazz, Morceaux_de_machines), alternately playing a Casio keyboard & an old turntable. As is to be expected, this improvised meeting, captured on tape on one drunken day is as hectic as can be. Not to be compared with anything the two protagonists have done elsewhere.
