WJSV COMPLETE DAY Thursday, September 21st, 1939, radio station WJSV in Washington, D.C., recorded their entire broadcast day -- from sign on, to sign off. This was before the advent of magnetic recording tape, so transcription disks were used. The overall quality of these disk recordings is good to excellent, except for a few spots of noticeable distortion. These transcriptions were transferred to tape in their entirety, except for the ommission of the evening re-broadcast of FDR's address to...

"Illinois Carousel" was a politically sponsored radio broadcast from the mid-1900's captured on a Webster model 80 wire recorder. Broadcast on WJJD. Conrad F. Becker was running for the office of Illinois State Treasurer and needed Buddy's help to get him there. Tuesday, April 13 is mentioned as the date of the Illinois primary elections in the recording and places the recording at the year 1948.

SMITH BALLEW Don't know much about the particulars of the interviews. Took place in Texas, perhaps in the mid to late 1960s and on at least two separate dates and locations (Temple U. being one). Smith reminisces with a couple of fellows. They chat a bit about specifics and then spin a few 78s they've just been talking about. This is paired down from the original tape, with just one song between each bit of talking. The interview is broken into five parts of roughly 30 minutes each. Not even...

Old radio broadcast from the late 1940's or early 1950's captured on a Webster Model 80 wire recorder. These models of wire recorders were manufactured in Chicago around 1947 or 1948. The show was broadcast on WJFL (WJSL?) and "invites you to hear the talents of young professional vocal artists, here in Chicago". Rosemarie Coulder(sp?) was the featured artist with Phyllis Miller accompanying on piano. The program closes with the announcer stating Miss Coulder was "tonight's...

Part 19 of 'Complete Broadcast Day' has a skipped groove at 6:04 - during a clarinet solo in the Louis Prima rendition of "I'll Remember". In this version the missing time is restored with a seamless patch from elsewhere in the passage. The performance is wonderful. Please enjoy.
